Welcome to the Charles A. Woodford American Legion Post 2007's website. We are located in Swansea, Illinois and meet on the fourth Monday of each month at the Swansea Improvement Association located on 301 Service Street.
Our post is dedicated to the improvement of services for veterans of all services. We work hard at raising money to support various veteran programs and hospitals within the Metro St. Louis area including visits to local assisted living centers for the Gifts for Yanks Who Gave program and various veteran appreciation ceremonies. We also promote various youth programs such as the Boy Scouts of America, Boys State and the Legion Oratorical Contest for our local schools.
Current American Legion priorities are:
Increased military pay and concurrent receipt of military longevity retirement and VA disability compensation
Better military housing
Military readiness issues
Needed improvements in TRICARE and VA medical care
Provide VA disability benefits and health care for veterans with Hepatitis C, radiation, diabetes related to Agent Orange and Gulf War illness
Flag protection
Annual benefits (i.e. COLAs)
Restore veterans' right to compensation for tobacco-related illnesses
Employment services and transition assistance for veterans and for active duty personnel
Improved Montgomery GI Bill education benefits
If you meet the eligibility requirements and are interested in helping local veterans, come visit us. We keep our meetings short and to the point.
Don't forget to check the calendar for upcoming events
Eligibility Requirements for American Legion Membership
If you are currently on active duty, serving the United States honorably, anywhere in the world, we invite you to become a member of The American Legion.
Thanks to the LEGION Act (Let Everyone Get Involved in Opportunities for National Service Act) signed into law on July 30, 2019, the current eligibility period is Dec. 7, 1941, to the present, and includes the current war campaigns. Previously, there were seven declared war periods. Now there are two: the current war period dating back to World War II and another covering World War I. No other restrictions to American Legion membership have changed.
